Qualifications

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL INTERIM

ROCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL

1.0 FTE

Assignment ends June 30, 2027

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree preferably in Educational Leadership, School Administration or Curriculum.
  • Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate, preferably in Secondary Education.
  • Michigan School Administrator certificate.
  • Demonstrate and models professional demeanor, resourcefulness and effective communication strategies with diverse groups.
  • Strong knowledge base in cultural proficiency strategies and best practices.
  • Successful instructional administrative experience.
  • Three years successful secondary teaching experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and community.

COMPENSATION: Step 1 of the RAA Master Agreement. Benefits per the Rochester Administrators Association Master Agreement. If a current REA member, REA seniority would be maintained and a return to a REA position would be guaranteed, with the intent to return to current position, if possible.

TITLE:

INTERIM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL 1.08

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SUPERVISES: All professional and support personnel assigned to the building.

JOB GOAL: To assist the principal in using leadership, supervisory and administrative skills in order to promote the educational development of each student.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works to maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Enforces discipline as necessary in accordance with the Code of Responsible Behavior and Student Conduct, incorporating restorative justice principals.
  • Works cooperatively with various members of the Administration Center staff in addressing District problems relating to instruction, transportation, and special services.
  • Recruits, screens, hires, trains, assigns and evaluates staff members assigned to the building.
  • Functions as principal in the principal’s absence.
  • Works with instructional staff to initiate, design, implement, and evaluate instructional programs, materials, and strategies to meet assessed needs of students.
  • Plans and supervises activities and programs which are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum such as: sporting events, plays, concerts, assemblies, student council, student driving and parking, student fund raising, student publications, field trips and bus applications and interim reports.
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records and reports to parents on the progress and attendance of students.
  • Works to establish and maintain a favorable relationship with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs and to interpret Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Participates in building meetings and such other meetings as may be required by the District.
  • Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  • Works with the principal to establish a budget and to allocate financial resources.
  • Acts as a liaison between the school and the community encouraging community participation in school activities.
  • Keeps abreast of educational developments by attending conferences and workshops, and by reading and discussing issues with colleagues.
  • Motivates and assists staff in setting curriculum objectives.
  • Acts as a liaison between district and police liaison and outside agencies (courts, psychiatric, hospitals, etc.).
  • Monitors the safety and administration of the school plant and grounds, and responds to emergency situations requiring first aid, etc.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of building and District reports.
  • Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  • Serves on standing and ad hoc building committees as needed.
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school and its programs.
  • Supervises student lunchroom and hallways, as necessary.
  • Chairs the building team comprised of psychologist, social worker, learning consultant, teacher consultant, counselors, nurse, and speech pathologist.
  • Offers guidance to employees who may be experiencing work-related or personal problems that may affect job performance.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/designee.
