Qualifications

  • Experience working with gifted learners.
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in elementary, middle grades, and/or secondary education, special education, social work, psychology, or counseling.
  • AIG certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)

POSITION PURPOSE

Ensures all student needs are being met academically and social-emotionally by analyzing multiple sources of data when problem-solving the needs of gifted students in the building. Ensures that the gifted learner is knowledgeable about accelerated and rigorous pathways as well as collaborates with other members of the school and greater community to help prepare students for post-secondary experiences. Maintains a caseload of students to monitor their academic progress. Works in conjunction with school staff and other stakeholders to ensure that gifted learners are receiving quality instruction and are provided equitable opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Extensive knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of support (MTSS);
  • Extensive knowledge of goal setting and use of progress monitoring data to evaluate response to instruction;
  • Extensive knowledge of district adopted curriculum pacing and age-appropriate developmental expectations;
  • Extensive experience in collaborating with various members of a school and local community;
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of current policies, practices, and trends relating to gifted learners;
  • Considerable knowledge of high school graduation requirements;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Knowledgeable of local and state opportunities that will benefit the gifted learner;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to interpret and analyze high school student performance data;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Three years of experience as a general education teacher, special education teacher, counselor, psychologist, or social worker;
  • Experience working with gifted learners..
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in elementary, middle grades, and/or secondary education, special education, social work, psychology, or counseling.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • AIG certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures that current policies, practices, and trends relating to gifted learners are implemented.
  • Ensures gifted learners are included in MTSS.
  • Navigates and communicates to students and parents the high school graduation requirements.
  • Utilizes goal setting and progress monitoring data to evaluate how AIG students in the building are responding to instruction.
  • Interprets and analyzes high school student performance data as it relates to AIG students.
  • Practices effective time management skills to ensure support is provided to all assigned schools.
  • Assists school teams in critical thinking and problem-solving to provide the appropriate level of support to AIG students.
  • Stays abreast of local and state opportunities that will benefit the gifted learner.
  • Collaborates regularly with IALS: Advanced Learning.
  • Applies knowledge of district-adopted curriculum pacing and age-appropriate developmental expectations.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
