Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of California employment law (FEHA, wage & hour, PAGA, etc.).
  • Ability to independently analyze legal claims and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to build rapport with prospective clients.
  • Experience using case management systems such as Lead Docket, Filevine, or Litify.

Responsibilities

  • Review and independently evaluate employment matters submitted by Intake Specialists to determine disposition (sign-up, referral, decline, or hold).
  • Analyze claims across wage/hour, FEHA discrimination and harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and related workplace claims.
  • Contact prospective clients to clarify facts, assess credibility, and obtain necessary information.
  • Document case evaluations in Lead Docket and escalate close or complex decisions when appropriate.
  • Meet daily and weekly intake review goals consistent with speed-to-lead standards and communicate capacity concerns.
  • Leverage technology tools to improve speed, consistency, and quality of case evaluations.
  • Contribute to improvement of intake processes, vetting standards, and operational efficiencies as the department grows.

Job Summary:

The Intake Vetting Attorney plays a critical role in evaluating prospective employment matters and determining whether they meet the firm's legal and strategic criteria for representation. Working from information gathered by Intake Specialists, this role exercises independent legal judgment to assess claims, identify viable causes of action, and determine the appropriate case disposition. The ideal candidate is analytical, decisive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where timely, consistent, and well-reasoned decisions directly impact the firm's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and independently evaluate employment matters submitted by Intake Specialists to determine the appropriate disposition, including sign-up, referral, decline, or hold.
  • Analyze claims across the firm's core practice areas, including wage and hour, FEHA discrimination and harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, disability and pregnancy accommodations, and PAGA/class actions.
  • Contact prospective clients as needed to clarify facts, assess credibility, and obtain information necessary to make well-reasoned legal decisions.
  • Exercise independent legal judgment while identifying statute-sensitive matters, documenting case evaluations in Lead Docket, and escalating close or complex decisions when appropriate.
  • Meet daily and weekly case review goals consistent with the firm's speed-to-lead standards and proactively communicate capacity concerns.
  • Leverage technology tools to improve the speed, consistency, and quality of case evaluations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of intake processes, vetting standards, and operational efficiencies as the department grows.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • 2-3+ years of experience in employment law or plaintiff-side litigation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law, including FEHA, wage and hour laws, PAGA, wrongful termination, retaliation, disability accommodation, leave laws, and related workplace claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze legal claims, identify viable causes of action, and make sound legal decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong issue-spotting, analytical, and critical thinking skills with excellent judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with prospective clients while obtaining key facts.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume review queue while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and responsiveness.
  • Experience using case management systems such as Lead Docket, Filevine, Litify, or similar platforms is preferred.
