Job summary

The New Orleans Family Justice Center seeks an Intake Specialist to manage the intake process, conduct interviews with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, and troubleshoot service delivery within NOFJC.

The role requires trauma-informed, empathetic approach, strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to changing needs; 40 hours training in first year, 30 yearly thereafter.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Related Field strongly preferred.
• 2–5 years of experience in a similar position with multitasking.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills required.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, develop and organize client information for NOFJC intake process.
• Collaborate with staff/provider on a daily basis to meet the needs of survivors.
• Assist survivor in completing intake form, safety plan and lethality assessment.
• Explain to the survivor services and resources available.
• Connect the survivor to appropriate service provider.
• Attends partners meeting.
• Holds strict confidentiality of all clients and visitors at all times.
• Completes 40 hours of domestic violence and sexual assault training provided by the NOFJC within the first year of employment.
• Completes 30 hours of ongoing training each year of domestic violence and sexual assault after the first full year of employment.
• Works as a team member with partnering agencies of the NOFJC.

Job description

The New Orleans Family Justice Center is a nationally recognized, dynamic collaborative organization dedicated to providing immediate, effective and comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

The organization is seeking to fill the role of Intake Specialist. The Intake Specialist will assist in the development, implementation and conducting of the intake process. This includes managing the day to day operations of service delivery, conducting intake interviews with domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking survivors, troubleshooting issues related to direct service, navigating survivors through the intake process, connecting survivors to on-site and off-site partners, and reviewing documentation for entry into survivor folder.

Knowledge and Abilities

This position requires excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and computer skills. It requires an excellent work ethic and the ability to have active listening skills. It requires the ability to function both independently and as part of a team. The position requires attention to detail; the ability to follow-through on tasks and manage multiple tasks. This individual must be trauma informed, empathic, and non-judgmental. Must be flexible; able to adapt and adjust to sudden changes in business needs, resources or survivor needs.

Essential Functions

• Attends staff meetings and trainings as requested.
• Completes 40 hours of domestic violence and sexual assault training provided by the NOFJC within the first year of employment.
• Completes 30 hours of ongoing training each year of domestic violence and sexual assault after the first full year of employment.
• Works as a team member with partnering agencies of the NOFJC.
• Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary or requested upon.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or Related Field strongly preferred. Minimum of two to five years of experience in similar position utilizing multi-tasking skills; preferable where personal relations skills are mandatory. Excellent communication and organizational skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

English/Bilingual. Previous experience, knowledge, or interest in working within the domestic violence and sexual assault field preferred. Comfortable working in a high energy, potentially stressful, work environment. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the New Orleans Family Justice Center.
