Job summary

Summit BHC operates Raleigh Oaks Behavioral Health in Garner, NC. The Intake RN handles admissions, screening, insurance verification, and coordination with physicians to determine level of care.

Responsibilities include documenting assessments, reviewing charts, and coordinating with treatment teams to ensure smooth admissions. The role requires an RN license (NC or compact), BSN preferred, and 1+ year in mental health admissions.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
• One or more years’ experience in mental health admissions preferred.
• Experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, referral, treatment planning, communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities.
• Experience in the managed care pre-certification process, level of care assessments and utilization.
• Outstanding interpersonal and interviewing and assessment skills. Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates admissions and assessment processes for incoming patients. Provides initial evaluation and initiates the integrated assessment, documenting patient symptoms, functioning and needs.
• Collaborates with facility medical and psychiatric staff to ensure appropriate recommendations and admissions. Communicates projected admissions to designated internal representative in a timely manner.
• Provides coverage for the Call Center Team; answers phones, processes admission requests, verifies insurance, and assists with pre-certifications during high volume.
• Assembles admission documentation from external sources and secures pre-authorization for treatment and admission.
• Reviews patient charts to determine medical necessity and coordinates orders with physicians for DSM-V diagnosis when appropriate.
• Coordinates with treatment teams to communicate recommendations and ensure appropriate level of care.
