Job summary

The Commission on Human Rights is seeking an experienced Intake Counsel to join Infoline, the agency’s call center in New York City. The role focuses on guiding staff, assessing potential NYCHRL claims, and supporting pre-complaint work with the public.

Under leadership, the Intake Counsel will review assessments, approve draft complaints, and coordinate with diverse stakeholders to route matters appropriately. Strong bar admission and civil rights experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
• Either 1 year of US legal experience after admission or 6 months as Agency Attorney Intern (30086).
• Must remain NYS Bar member during employment.
• AL II: 1 year at AL I or 2 years of related legal experience; AL III: 2+ years at I/II or 3 years total.

Responsibilities

• Review staff assessments and provide guidance on jurisdiction and possible NYCHRL violations.
• Review and approve draft complaints for filing ensuring clarity of allegations.
• Communicate with New Yorkers, community organizations and staff by email, phone and in person.
• Assist in Pre-Complaint Intervention and fast-track intake as needed.
