Job summary

The Commission on Human Rights in New York City seeks an experienced attorney to serve as Intake Counsel to Infoline, supporting staff in assessing claims under the NYCHRL and guiding decisions on jurisdiction and filings. The role emphasizes clear written communication and cross-team collaboration.

You will review complaints, assist with Pre-Complaint Interventions, backstop negotiations, and help maintain the agency’s case management systems while advancing the work of OCRE.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
• One year of legal experience after admission, or six months as Agency Attorney Intern.
• Eligible to be admitted to the bar and remain in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Review staff assessments and provide guidance on NYCHRL jurisdiction.
• Review and approve draft complaints for filing to ensure clear allegations.
• Communicate with New Yorkers and stakeholders by email, phone, and in person.
• Support Pre-Complaint Interventions and fast track intake as needed.
• Maintain accuracy in OCRE databases and training materials.
