Job summary

The City of New York's Commission on Human Rights is seeking an experienced Intake Counsel for its Infoline call center to provide legal guidance and support staff handling discrimination claims under the NYCHRL.

Under Deputy Commissioner guidance, the Intake Counsel will review claims, draft or approve complaints, communicate with the public and partners, and assist with Pre-Complaint Interventions and training.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• One year of satisfactory United States legal experience after admission to any state bar.
• Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).

Responsibilities

• Review Infoline staff assessments of potential claims and provide guidance on jurisdiction and violations.
• Review and approve draft complaints to ensure clear articulation of NYCHRL violations.
• Communicate effectively with New Yorkers, community organizations, and departments by email, phone and in person.
• Serve as a legal resource for Infoline staff in routing matters toward Pre-Complaint Intervention or other priorities.
• Support Infoline frontline staff in Pre-Complaint Interventions and negotiations, reviewing stipulations and orders.
• Maintain continuity in the OCRE database by identifying issues and correcting entries.
