About the Role

We are seeking a North Carolina-licensed attorney to serve as an Intake Attorney in our Durham office. As an early point of contact for prospective clients, you will help people understand their legal needs, explain how our firm can assist, and guide them through the process of beginning representation.

This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys meeting people, listens carefully, communicates clearly, and approaches sensitive conversations with empathy and sound judgment. Prior estate planning or probate administration experience is welcome but not required. A strong interest in learning these practice areas is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct initial consultations with prospective clients to understand their goals, circumstances, and estate planning or probate administration needs.
• Evaluate whether prospective matters are a good fit for the firm’s services and identify issues requiring further attorney review.
• Explain the firm’s services, proposed scope of representation, fees, and next steps in clear, accessible language.
• Set realistic expectations about the legal process, anticipated timelines, and information needed to move forward.
• Respond promptly and professionally to prospective client questions by phone, email, and in person.
• Coordinate follow-up and help prospective clients complete the engagement process.
• Prepare accurate consultation notes and coordinate a thorough handoff to the attorneys and staff responsible for each retained matter.
• Follow firm procedures for conflict checks, confidentiality, client engagement, and accurate timekeeping.
