Job summary

DRNY is seeking an Intake Specialist to assess client needs, direct them to DRNY services, and support advocacy efforts. This role reports to the Intake Director and requires coordinating with attorneys and staff across programs.

The Intake Specialist will handle time-sensitive matters, maintain confidential records, and travel within New York State as needed. This role supports disability justice and civil rights protections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Previous experience in a non-profit or human services environment is preferred.
• Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
• Multilingual skills preferred.
• Ability to manage an active caseload of 60-80 clients.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact with DRNY for Clients.
• Interview prospective clients, family members, advocacy groups, and others, in person, electronically, and by telephone.
• Assess individuals' needs and identify key issues within DRNY priorities.
• Summarize incoming client correspondence to determine needs.
• Obtain client information to assess eligibility for services.
• Input and track case information in the DRNY database.
• Work with staff to identify solutions for client issues.
• Deliver brief assistance and limited-scope advocacy under supervision.
• Provide resources and referrals to clients as needed.
• Prepare closing materials and relevant correspondence.
