Job summary

Disability Rights New York seeks an Intake Specialist to join our Brooklyn-based team. You will assess client needs, interview stakeholders, and route clients to appropriate DRNY services. Under supervision, provide brief advocacy, gather information, and maintain confidential case records.

The role offers remote work options, travel within New York, and the chance to support civil rights for people with disabilities through advocacy, referrals, and collaboration with staff and partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Non-profit or human services background preferred.
• Experience with people with disabilities preferred.
• Multilingual skills preferred.
• Ability to manage a caseload of 60-80 clients.
• Strong MS Office and data-entry skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact with DRNY clients.
• Interview clients and family members in person, electronically, and by phone.
• Assess needs and identify DRNY priorities and services.
• Summarize incoming correspondence to determine client needs.
• Input and track case information in the database.
• Provide resources, referrals, and brief advocacy under supervision.
• Maintain confidentiality of client and case information.
• Prepare closing materials and responses for clients and funders.
• Travel within New York State as necessary; work remotely where possible.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Intake Attorneys and Director.
