Job summary

The Illinois Department of Insurance seeks an Insurance Performance Examiner Trainee in the Market Conduct Division for a twelve-month training program. You will gain knowledge of the Illinois Insurance Code and related laws, and learn to report findings to supervisors.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, statistics, accounting, economics, business administration or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Under immediate supervision, receives instruction and guidance from higher level examiners to participate in the examination and evaluation of insurance company rates, rating schedules, programs, and procedures used by life, accident, and health insurance companies to determine a company’s extent of compliance with the Illinois Insurance Code and all related insurance laws, rules, and regulations.
• Travels occasionally in-state and out-of-state on an as needed basis to assigned examination sites conducting on-site reviews and may remain at or travel back to these sites for the length of time necessary to accomplish the assigned tasks and complete an examination and to meet the operational needs of the agency.
• Reviews the examination plan and scope for each assigned examination and discusses each scope and its significance, any questionable items or issues and the examination’s timeframe with the examiner-in-charge.
• Contributes to the completion of the final examination report, which includes all findings and documentation from assigned examinations, and submits the completed work papers, examination documents and preliminary reports for review to the examiner-in-charge.
• Attends and successfully completes all required training classes, seminars and workshops designed to develop, build, and enhance examination knowledge and skills, which also includes attending and participating in meetings that are related to assigned examinations.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
