Job summary

Stealth Startup in Chicago seeks an experienced litigation attorney to defend tort matters from start to finish. You will handle pleadings, discovery, depositions, and trial, representing commercial clients and insurers in premises liability and related defense matters.

Ideal candidates have Illinois licensure in good standing, proven hands-on trucking or construction negligence experience, and a track record of managing high-volume caseloads with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Illinois in good standing.
• Experience in tort/insurance defense including trucking or construction negligence.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently.
• Strong deposition, motion practice, and trial experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of tort defense matters from inception through resolution.
• Handle pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions, settlements, mediations, and trial.
• Represent commercial clients and insurers in premises liability and related defense matters.
• Communicate effectively with clients, carriers, and adjusters throughout litigation lifecycle.
• Collaborate with partners and staff to maintain personalized, cost-efficient service.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of tort defense matters from inception through resolution, including trucking litigation and/or construction negligence claims
• Handle all phases of litigation: pleadings, written and oral discovery, depositions, dispositive motions, settlement negotiations, mediations, and trial
• Represent commercial clients and insurance carriers in premises liability, catastrophic accident, and related defense matters
• Communicate directly and effectively with clients, carriers, and adjusters throughout the litigation lifecycle
• Collaborate with firm partners and staff to maintain the firm's standard of individualized, cost-efficient service

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Illinois, in good standing
• Demonstrated tort/insurance defense experience, with actual hands-on experience in trucking litigation and/or construction negligence required
• Experience managing a high-volume caseload independently
• Strong deposition, motion practice, and trial experience (bench and jury)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work on-site in Chicago, IL

Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $120,000 and $180,000. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
