Job summary

Nesco Resource is partnering with a global engineering and technology organization to recruit an Instrumentation Engineer for its Houston team. The role focuses on hands-on instrumentation design, installation, and delivery across engineering through startup.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in instrumentation within chemical, petrochemical, refining, or similar industries, with field instrumentation experience and valve sizing capability.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related electrical discipline required.
• 3+ years of instrumentation engineering experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, energy, industrial process or EPC environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with field instrumentation design and specification.
• Experience with control valve sizing and specification.
• Experience developing instrumentation deliverables in a project environment.
• EIT/FE certification with a commitment to pursue PE licensure preferred.
• Familiarity with ISA, IEC, NEC, NFPA, and API standards is preferred.
• Experience with COMOS, SmartPlant, or AutoCAD is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to travel ~20–30% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop instrumentation deliverables including instrument indexes, I/O lists, datasheets, loop diagrams, hook‑up drawings, cable schedules, and installation layouts.
• Specify and select field instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, and level.
• Size and specify control valves and other instrumentation equipment.
• Develop instrument specifications, technical documentation, material requisitions, and bid evaluations.
• Review vendor drawings and technical documentation.
• Provide instrumentation input to P&IDs and project design documentation.
• Support instrument layouts, cable engineering, BOM estimates, and installation requirements.
• Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, and controls/automation engineering teams.
• Participate in design and 3D model reviews for accessibility and constructability.
• Interface with clients, vendors, contractors, and project teams.
• Support FATs, SATs, loop checks, field installation, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Support projects throughout engineering, procurement, construction, and field execution.

Job description

Nesco Resource is partnering with a global engineering and technology organization seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to join its Houston engineering team.

This position will support large-scale industrial process and capital projects from engineering and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrumentation engineering, field instrumentation, and instrument installation. This is not a programming-focused controls/automation position. We are looking for someone who enjoys the hands‑on technical side of instrumentation engineering and wants to continue growing within that specialty.

Key Responsibilities

• Knowledge of applicable ISA, IEC, NEC, NFPA, and/or API standards is preferred


• Experience with engineering software such as COMOS, SmartPlant, or AutoCAD is a plus but not required


• Must be comfortable traveling approximately 20–30% domestically and internationally
