Job summary

NV5 LNG Engineering in Portsmouth, NH seeks an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to contribute to LNG and natural gas projects nationwide, from design through commissioning. You will work with engineers, designers, clients, and vendors to deliver effective control solutions for LNG and natural gas applications.

The role offers opportunities to develop PLC and HMI software, implement ISA standards, and travel to client sites for deployment and testing throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years in industrial controls engineering with preference for 8+ years.
• Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC/RTU/SCADA; familiarity with Allen Bradley is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for PLC functions and controls equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead selection, procurement, and installation of hardware for industrial automation equipment and instrumentation systems.
• Design control system panels, networks, field junction boxes, and other control system hardware components.
• Develop and implement process control system narratives.
• Assist with Piping and Instrument Diagrams and ISA standards adherence for the process industry.
• Develop PLC programming software and HMI screens for LNG peak-shaving plants; travel to client sites for deployment, debugging, and testing.
• Utilize electrical/test equipment like Fluke meters and HART Communicators to diagnose faults.

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our team of experienced engineering professionals. This position provides the opportunity to contribute to a variety of controls engineering projects from initial concept (FEED) through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, designers, clients, and vendors to deliver effective engineering solutions for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and natural gas projects nationwide.

This role is based in our Portsmouth, NH office.

Responsibilities

• Utilize various electrical and controls test equipment such as Fluke process meters, HART Communicators, etc., to assess control system equipment and diagnose faults.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of industrial controls engineering experience, with preference given to candidates possessing 8 or more years of relevant experience. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
• Hands-on experience designing, programming, installing, debugging, and maintaining industrial control systems (DCS, PLC, RTU, or SCADA) is preferred. Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix (or equivalent) is a plus.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with PLC functions and integrated controls equipment.
• Experience coordinating fire and gas detection systems with PLC, SCADA, DCS, and emergency shutdown systems is a plus.
• Ability to set priorities, to be self-disciplined, and consistent.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively individually or within a multi-disciplined project group.
• Computer literacy in MS Office and general computer use is a must.
• Experience with AutoCAD (preferably AutoCAD Electrical) is a plus.
