Job summary

rwdyinc seeks an Instrumentation and Controls Lead II in Midland, TX for night shift to shape pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on upstream projects. You will lead instrument and control scope, ensure safety and reliability while optimizing cost, and coordinate with teams across disciplines.

The role requires a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, strong PLC experience, ISA instrumentation knowledge, and hands-on SAP/Analytics for Excel/Tableau skills.

Qualifications

• Experience with instrument design standards, codes, and safety criteria.
• Strong ability to review P&IDs, control narratives, and architecture diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with customers, vendors, and engineers to coordinate instrumentation work.
• Participate in HAZOP/LOPA and other technical reviews.
• Assist with instrumentation deliverables: instrument indexes, datasheets, wiring drawings, P&IDs, BOMs.
• Support ATS by reviewing procedures, resources, and scope adjustments based on AT outcomes.
• Develop, track, and adjust the commissioning execution schedule.
• Provide ongoing support for installed systems, including maintenance and reliability.

Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls Lead II

Compensation: $55.30/hr

Location: Midland, TX 79701

Schedule: Nights, 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.; 7/7 for local personnel or 14/14 for non-local personnel

Target Start Date: ASAP

Tentative End Date: Four months from start date

Allowances:

• Truck allowance: $150/day, or an agency truck for W2 personnel
• Per diem: $125/day for non-local personnel

Scope

Define the scope of all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities; assign workloads; and review and implement standards and procedures, including man-hour estimating, cost estimating, budgeting, and progress reporting for instrumentation across all project phases. Support the development and execution of centralized engineering services for existing upstream production operating units and new upstream capital projects. Maintain the safety, availability, and reliability of instrument and control systems while optimizing cost.

Main Functions

Define the scope of all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities; assign workloads; and review and implement standards and procedures, including man-hour estimating, cost estimating, budgeting, and progress reporting for instrumentation across all project phases. Support the development and execution of centralized engineering services for existing upstream production operating units and new upstream capital projects. Maintain the safety, availability, and reliability of instrument and control systems while optimizing cost.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Liaise with customers, vendors, engineers, and other disciplines as required.
• Participate in HAZOP/LOPA reviews and other technical, constructability, and quality reviews.
• Assist with the design, review, and approval of instrumentation engineering deliverables, including instrument indexes, installation details, location drawings, datasheets, wiring drawings, loop drawings, P&IDs, material requisitions, evaluations of alternatives and instrument selection, calculations for control valves, flow elements and pressure safety valves, document control logs, bills of materials, and instrument change approvals.
• Support project Acceptance Testing (AT) by reviewing procedures, assigning resources, periodically attending AT, and adjusting the commissioning scope to account for AT successes and deficiencies.
• Develop, track, and adjust the commissioning execution schedule.
• Provide ongoing support for installed systems, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational reliability.

Skills and Qualifications

• Previous experience in a closely related position and/or supervisory experience in a related field.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering specialty, or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria.
• Ability to review, evaluate, and update cause and effect diagrams, P&IDs, logic and architecture diagrams, and control narratives.
• Experience selecting, applying, and preparing ISA data sheet specifications for pressure, temperature, and level instruments; control valves; shutdown valves; and fire and gas detection hardware.
• Proficiency in data collection and analysis using common databases and software tools such as SAP, Analytics for Excel, and Tableau.
• Strong PLC ladder logic experience, with the ability to analyze, interpret, and troubleshoot program logic.
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English, especially for technical and business communications.
