Job summary

CyberCoders is seeking a hands-on Instrument & Controls Engineer to design, commission, and maintain DCS/PLC systems, FGS and SIS for industrial operations. You will ensure safe, compliant performance of control systems and field instrumentation through testing, debugging and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include leading commissioning, FAT/SAT activities, HAZOP participation, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Control Systems Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years experience in instrument & controls engineering for process/industrial facilities, including commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Proven experience with DCS/PLC configuration and programming.
• Practical experience with Fire & Gas Systems (FGS), fire systems, gas detection and SIS including SIL lifecycle knowledge (IEC 61511/ISA).
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across control logic, field devices, networks and HMI/SCADA.

• Develop instrument/control system designs, loop diagrams, cable schedules and wiring details for DCS/PLC and SIS installations.
• Configure, program and commission DCS/PLC systems and perform FAT/SAT with vendors and project teams.

• Lead field commissioning, loop checking, calibration and start-up of transmitters, meters and valves.
• Troubleshoot control systems and perform root cause analyses to improve uptime.
• Manage SIS lifecycle activities including SRS, SIL assessments and validation.
• Prepare technical docs, datasheets, control narratives and as-built records.
• Coordinate with PMs, operations and vendors to resolve issues and handover safely.
• Provide training and support to operations on control systems and instrument maintenance.
• Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments and change control.

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Instrument & Controls Engineer to design, commission, and maintain process control and safety systems for industrial operations. The role focuses on ensuring reliable, safe, and compliant performance of DCS/PLC systems, Fire & Gas (FGS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and associated field instrumentation through design, troubleshooting, testing and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain instrument and control system designs, specifications, loop diagrams, cable schedules and wiring details for DCS/PLC and SIS installations.
• Configure, program and commission DCS and PLC systems (logic, HMI screens, alarms, interlocks) and perform FAT/SAT activities with vendors and project teams.
• Design, implement and test Fire & Gas systems (FGS), fire systems, gas detection and associated shutdown logic in compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Lead field commissioning, loop checking, calibration and start-up activities for transmitters, flow meters, valves, actuators, and other field devices.
• Troubleshoot and debug control system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and uptime.
• Manage SIS lifecycle activities including Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), SIL assessments, validation, proof testing and maintenance in accordance with IEC 61511/ISA standards.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, instrument datasheets, control narratives, test procedures, and as-built records.
• Coordinate with project managers, operations, maintenance teams and vendors to resolve technical issues, support modifications and ensure safe handover to operations.
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance personnel on control systems, SIS, FGS and instrument maintenance practices.
• Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments and change control processes to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) configuration and programming.
• Practical experience with Fire & Gas Systems (FGS), fire systems, gas detection and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) including SIL lifecycle knowledge (IEC 61511/ISA).
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across control logic, field devices, networks and HMI/SCADA systems.
• Experience with vendor FAT/SAT, loop checking, calibration and commissioning procedures.
• Knowledge of common control platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson, ABB, Siemens, Rockwell) and PLC families (Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
