Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or MS in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Previous supervisory experience in related field.
• Experience across all phases of instrumentation scope including pre-commissioning and commissioning.
• Experience participating in HAZOP and LOPA reviews.
• Experience delivering ongoing support for installed systems (maintenance, troubleshooting, operational reliability).

Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls Lead II

Duration: 4 months

Schedule: 7/7 – local, 14/14 – non-local, nights – 6p-6a

Location: Midland, TX

This opportunity offers involvement in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities within an upstream production and capital project environment. The role supports the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of instrumentation and control systems, with responsibility across engineering coordination, acceptance testing, execution planning, and operational support. This position will suit candidates with strong experience in PLC ladder logic, P&IDs, control narratives, and instrumentation engineering deliverables.

Required Education

Bachelor’s or MS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience

Required Experience

• Previous experience in a closely related position and/or supervisory experience in a related field
• Experience supporting all phases of instrumentation scope, including pre-commissioning, commissioning, execution planning, budgeting, progress reporting, and workload assignment
• Experience participating in technical, constructability, quality, HAZOP, and LOPA reviews
• Experience supporting acceptance testing by reviewing procedures, assigning resources, attending testing activities, and adjusting commissioning scope based on outcomes
• Experience delivering ongoing support for installed systems, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational reliability

Required Skills

• Extensive knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria
• Ability to review, evaluate, and update cause and effect documents, P&IDs, logic diagrams, architecture diagrams, and control narratives
• Experience in the selection, application, and ISA data sheet specification of pressure, temperature, and level instruments, control valves, shutdown valves, and fire and gas detection systems
• Strong PLC ladder logic capability, including analysis, interpretation, and troubleshooting of program logic
• Ability to support the design, review, and approval of engineering deliverables such as instrument indexes, installation details, location drawings, datasheets, wiring drawings, loop drawings, material requisitions, calculations, bill of materials, and instrument change approvals
• Proficiency in data collection and analysis using SAP, Analytics for Excel, and Tableau
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and changing priorities
• Fluent English for technical and business communication
• Ability to liaise effectively with customers, vendors, engineers, and other disciplines
