Job summary

Faremouth & Company seeks a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead I&C discipline on modular plants, process skids and packaged systems across oil & gas, petrochemical and power projects. You will own the I&C scope from proposal through FAT and turnover, and provide hands-on support to fabrication shop and client-facing activities.

This role requires 5+ years in I&C engineering for energy sectors, experience with EPC and operator specs, and proficiency with AVEVA and AutoCAD tools.

The Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer is responsible for delivering high-qualityinstrumentation, control and safety system engineering for modular plants, process skids andpackaged systems for the oil & gas, midstream, petrochemical, power generation, hydrogen/carboncapture and other industrial markets. The role owns the I&C discipline on assigned projects from theproposal stage through basic and detailed engineering, procurement, shop fabrication, FactoryAcceptance Testing (FAT) and final documentation turnover.This position combines engineering development with hands-on support to the fabrication shop. The engineer ensures that designs are technically robust, safe,constructible, maintainable and compliant with applicable codes, standards and client specifications,and serves as the I&C technical point of contact for clients, vendors and the fabrication team.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Controls/Instrumentation, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited institution.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Instrumentation & Controls engineering in the Oil, Gas & Power industries.
• At least 5 years of experience on modular plants, process skids or packaged systems for oil & gas, midstream, petrochemical, power or other industrial markets.
• Proven ability to independently develop all deliverables listed under Key Deliverables.
• Hands‑on experience supporting shop fabrication and executing FATs with clients.
• Experience working to EPC and major operator specifications.
• Experience supporting sales proposals and I&C cost estimating.

Software & Tools

• Instrumentation databases: AVEVA Instrumentation, Hexagon Smart Instrumentation (INtools) or equivalent.
• Control valve sizing software: Fisher Specification Manager, Masoneilan ValSpeQ, ConVal or equivalent.
• AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD P&ID; review of 3D models (Navisworks, SP3D, AVEVA E3D).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel for instrument lists, calculations and estimates.

Systems & Technologies

• PLC, DCS, SIS, BMS and Fire & Gas systems (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, Triconex, HIMA or similar).
• Communication protocols: 4-20 mA/HART, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP, Profibus/Profinet, Foundation Fieldbus, WirelessHART.
• Measurement technologies: pressure, temperature, level (radar, DP, displacer, magnetostrictive), flow (Coriolis, ultrasonic, magnetic, DP) and analyzers (gas, H2S, O2, moisture, chromatography).
• Control, on/off and ESD/SDV/BDV valves; pneumatic, electric and hydraulic actuators; smart positioners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas, or ability to obtain it. Functional safety certification (TÜV FS Engineer, CFSE/CFSP) or ISA certification (CAP, CCST).
• Experience with custody transfer metering systems, pumps, compression or power generation packages, fuel gas conditioning systems and ammonia systems.
