LJA Surveying is seeking an Instrument Person to transport and set up surveying instruments and prepare job sites. You will work in the field, helping the survey team with line clearance, stakes, and elevation measurements, supporting the surveyor throughout the day.

This role emphasizes hands-on experience, strong communication, and reliable collaboration with clients and internal teams in a dynamic, employee-owned environment.

• Strong communication skills in both oral and written form.
• Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external clients.

Responsibilities

• Transport and set up instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing job site for survey.
• Clear brush or trees away from survey line.
• Lays out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements.
• Holding prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points.
• Measures how far different points are from each other horizontally.
• Helps with various pieces of survey equipment.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As an Instrument Person at LJA Surveying you will be responsible for transporting and setting up instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing job site for survey

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

• Party Chief gives direction for this position
• Transport and set up instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing job site for survey
• Clear brush or trees away from survey line
• Lays out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements
• Holding prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points
• Measures how far different points are from each other Horizontally
• Helps with various pieces of survey equipment

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• HS Graduate or GED

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external clients

Physical Requirements:

• Occasional lifting/carrying of 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds
• Driving to and from various project sites
• Walking and working outdoors under variable weather conditions.
