Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve PLC-based systems and HMIs.
• Inspect and calibrate control devices, sensors, and equipment.

• Coordinate automation projects, including scope and timing.
• Work with Engineering, Production, Quality, and plant leadership to commission equipment.
• Support start-ups, operation, changeovers, and disruptions.
• Update preventive maintenance plans to reduce repeats and improve yield.

About this position

Description: We are looking for a technician with at least five years of industrial maintenance experience involving electrical systems and automation controls. The candidate can read electrical schematics and PLC logic, troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and HMIs, diagnose sensors and drives, and document safe, lasting repairs. We need someone who can work independently during production disruptions and communicate clearly with operators, maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Quality. Food manufacturing, bakery or high-speed packaging experience is preferred. Experience with Siemens PLCs, variable frequency drives, servo systems, and plant networks is a plus.

• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve PLC-based process and supervisory control systems, HMIs, plant data networks, and electrical systems.
• Inspect, install, and maintain control devices, sensors, workstation installations, and related equipment; verify machine settings and calibration.
• Read electrical schematics & blueprints and PLC logic to diagnose faults and confirm safe, reliable repairs.
• Coordinate automation projects, including technical scope, cost, and timely completion.
• Partner with Engineering, Production, Quality, and plant leadership to specify, install, modify, and commission automated equipment.
• Support start-ups, daily operation, changeovers, shutdowns, and disruptions; resolve issues with operators and supervisors.
• Analyze failures and update preventive maintenance plans to reduce repeat issues and improve yield.
• Document work and follow-up needs in the maintenance system; report improvement opportunities to leadership.
• Assist with inspections, audits, vendor repairs, new equipment installation, and training.
• Train operators and maintenance teammates on assigned automation systems and provide technical guidance.
• Ability to work with low and high voltage up to 3 phase 480V.
• Work independently and with other technicians to complete repairs safely and promptly, including support outside regular hours when the plant schedule requires.
• Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, safe lifting, PPE, GMP, and all Bakerly safety and food safety procedures.

The technician may perform other related duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• PLC Certification preferred

Experience:

• At least five years of industrial maintenance experience, including electrical and automation controls.

Skills:

• Knowledge of industrial electricity, Siemens/ Allen Bradley PLC-based controls, sensors, plant electrical systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, diagnose controls faults, and explain technical findings to operators and managers.
• Ability to use maintenance software and Microsoft Office to locate information, document work, and communicate findings.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work independently and adapt to a flexible plant schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical education in electrical or mechanical technology, industrial maintenance, automation, or a related field.
• Food manufacturing, bakery equipment, or high-speed packaging experience.
• Experience with Siemens PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives, servo systems, and plant communication networks.
• Experience with AutoCAD, automation project coordination, or training and mentoring other technicians.
