The faculty of the Department of History at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for two full‑time, professional‑track Instructor positions to begin August 16, 2026. Each position is a 9‑month appointment with a teaching load of eight courses for the academic year. These are three‑year appointments contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. The Department of History is home to more than 30 faculty and 40 graduate students, teaching and conducting research in U.S. South, civil rights, race and slavery, the environment, science and technology, popular culture, and public history.
Applications must include: (1) a cover letter describing research and teaching interests; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a brief (not to exceed 20 pages) writing sample; and (4) the names and email addresses of three references. Letters of recommendation must be sent directly to Lori Carey, Department Coordinator, at LoriCarey@sc.edu – applications are not considered complete until at least three signed letters are received.
