Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Current and valid NC Class A driver’s license or ability to obtain before start.
• Four years as a licensed motor vehicle operator with clean driving record.
• Three years of Class A OTR experience in 48 states across weather/terrain.
• One year as a driver trainer or from a truck driver-training program.
• Teaching or industry training experience in truck driver training topics.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and teach courses in Truck Driver Training.
• Develop learner-centered lesson plans and employ diverse teaching strategies.
• Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning and lab environments.
• Maintain clean and safe classroom and lab spaces; manage equipment.
• Assess student learning outcomes and maintain student records.

Job Description

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College areresponsible for supporting student success by creating an optimumlearning environment, responding to student needs, managingeffective instructional activities, modeling employability skills,demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative workrelationships with other faculty and staff, supporting collegeadministrative requirements, and maintaining competency in theirinstructional field. He/she will be responsible for qualityinstruction and for effective participation and interest in thetotal affairs of the college. Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teachcourses to students enrolled in the Truck Driver Training program.The faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety oftopics within the curriculum, including classroom and over-the-road( OTR ) instruction and may be required to teach day, eveningand/or weekend hours.

Duties/Functions

Teaching

• developing learner centered lesson plans
• employing teaching strategies & instructional materials fordifferent learning styles
• incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technologyin classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
• creating and modeling a quality learning environment thatsupports a diverse student population
• preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional supportmaterials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate
• conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomesin courses and programs/general education as appropriate

Professional Development

• participating in professional development activities tomaintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials orlicensures as required by program or accreditation
• participating in professional development opportunities toadvance teaching skills and strategies

Administration

• maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep ofassigned equipment
• providing for the security of facilities, equipment andinstructional materials and maintaining safe workingconditions
• maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) inaccordance with established deadlines using a variety oftechnology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor,Moodle)
• complying with all applicable college, state and federal rulesand regulations

Student Support

• addressing student concerns in a timely manner
• promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
• referring students to campus and community resources whenappropriate

• High School diploma or equivalency.

Education Preferred

• Associate's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondaryinstitution.

Experience Required

• Four years of experience as a licensed operator of a motorvehicle with a current and clean driving record.
• Three years of relevant industry experience as a Class 'A'(tractor trailer driver) in over the road ( OTR ) 48 stateoperation in all types of weather and terrain.
• One year as a driver trainer or a graduate from a truck drivertraining school.
• Teaching and/or industry training experience in truck drivertraining topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses,training sessions to include behind the wheel, conductingprofessional development workshops, and/or other continuingeducation seminars.

Experience Preferred

• Greater than three years of relevant industry experience as aClass 'A' (tractor trailer driver) in over the road ( OTR ) 48state operation in all types of weather and terrain.
• Owner/Operator experience.
• Greater than one year as a driver trainer.
• Experience with NC Department of Transportation, state, andfederal laws and regulations related to truck driver, drivingsafety and health practices.
• Post-secondary teaching experience.
• Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
• Experience with distance learning and/or alternateinstructional delivery systems

2. No revocation or suspension of driver’s license in the last fiveyears.
3. Not have convictions for moving violations totaling five or morepoints in the last three years.
4. No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moralturpitude within the last ten years.
5. Successful completion of Department of Transportation ( DOT )physical examination and drug test upon hire.
