Job summary

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, in partnership with Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, seeks a part-time instructor for the Truck Driver Training Program. In this role you will instruct and supervise students, develop course objectives, assignments, and assessments, and coordinate with off-campus sites.

The position requires five years of tractor-trailer driving experience; teaching or counseling at the post-secondary level is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Instruct 16–24 contact hours preparing students to drive tractor-trailer rigs; prepare objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance policies and course syllabus to be distributed at first class meeting; prepare, proctor and grade tests; prepare instructional materials and aids.
  • Teach proper driving procedures, safe driving responsibilities, commercial motor vehicle laws, map reading, daily logs and vehicle maintenance; prepare students for the Commercial Driver License test.
  • Supervise range training; instruct students in operating trucks on the highway.
  • Travel (some overnight) to off-campus sites for instructional partnerships with other community colleges.
  • Provide supervisor with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each class on time; turn in reports, final grades and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as required; administer student evaluations each quarter; develop new courses in field as required.
  • Assist in the evaluation of activities and operations of assigned program; ensure that operations meet the goals and objectives of the college and the needs of the student population.
  • Participate in work activities, projects and programs; coordinate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend textbooks and materials; make recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
  • Participate in the academic program’s efforts to recruit and retain students; participate in the review and revision of program publications, publicity and other community relations activities.
  • Attend various meetings, seminars and conferences; make presentations to outside agencies as a representative of the college; stay abreast of new developments in the assigned area of study.
  • Schedule regular office hours for consultation with students; ensure availability during non-scheduled hours by appointment; work closely with probationary advisees; counsel students in academic and employment planning; keep current on graduation and transfer requirements.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and required employee training.

Required Education / Experience
