Surgical Services Faculty are responsible for teaching coursesas assigned, student advising, college service, professionaldevelopment and promotion of collegial atmosphere. Faculty areexpected to support the institution’s mission and vision and abideby the Faculty Handbook and college-wide policies. Faculty reportdirectly to program managers and department chairs withintheirrespective departments and divisions.

This position will monitor students in the clinical areas, teachtheory in classroom, and demonstrate clinical skills in thesimulation laboratory. Additional responsibilities includeassessing courses, serving on college committees, participating inextracurricular activities, community service, and professionaldevelopment. Faculty may be required to teach evenings and weekendsas well as on-line, dual enrollment, and service learningcourses.

Key Responsibilities
65% InstructionalResponsibilities:
  • Provide learning experiences in accordance with students’ needsand abilities
  • Use learning resources to help students learn
  • Assess student learning in accordance with college policy
  • Provide each student with a course syllabus and schedule
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 office hours per week
  • Meet all scheduled classes within the appropriatetimeframe
  • Advise students and assist with registration, orientation, andrecruitment as needed
  • Follow the approved master course syllabi
  • Maintain accurate grade and attendance records.
  • Submit syllabi, office hours, grades, attendance, electronictime sheets, and other reports by established deadlines2
20% Evaluate and Document ClinicalPerformance:
  • Notify program manager and department chair of absence withcourse substitution plan in a timely manner.
  • Attend all departmental, division, and general facultymeetings
  • Attend convocations and participate in graduation exercise(attired in appropriate academic regalia)
  • Adhere to professional standards of conduct
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process
  • Outcome Assessment.
5% Service:
  • Contribute to the college and your discipline by collaboratingwith others and offering your service to the college.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Surgical Technology, Health Science, or arelated field; OR
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.

Certifications/License Required: CertifiedSurgical Technologist

Experience
  • 3 years documented experience in the operating room or surgicaltechnology instructor.
Preferred Education
  • Master’s degree in Health Science, Allied Health, Education orrelated field.
