Adjunct Faculty – Surgical Technology / Health Science

Location: Baton Rouge, LA

Work Type: Faculty - Part Time

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks to fill the position of Adjunct Faculty – Surgical Technology / Health Science. This is a part‑time position located in the Division of Nursing and Allied Health Services and is open for recruitment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver didactic, skills laboratory, and clinical instruction.
  • Direct, evaluate, and report student progress toward course objectives.
  • Periodically review and update course material.
  • Pursue ongoing formal training to maintain and upgrade professional and instructional capabilities.
  • Provide learning experiences that meet students' needs and abilities.
  • Notify program manager of absences with a timely course substitution plan.
  • Maintain accurate grade and attendance records.
  • Submit syllabi, grades, attendance, electronic time sheets, and other reports by established deadlines.
  • Discuss student problems with program manager, counselors, and appropriate personnel when special attention is required.
  • Use learning resources to facilitate student learning.
  • Engage in continual professional development related to pedagogy, assessment, and faculty expertise.
  • Meet all scheduled classes within the appropriate timeframe and provide opportunities for student conferences online, by phone, or face‑to‑face.
  • Attend annual orientation and assessment meetings.
  • Adhere to professional standards of conduct.
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process.
  • Assess student learning in accordance with college policy.
  • Provide feedback to the program about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice and suggest program modifications or improvements.
  • Discuss student progress with each preceptor.
Required Education

Applicants must possess a minimum of an associate’s degree and have plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred.

Required Experience

Applicants must have at least 2 years in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years. Previous teaching experience is preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications

Applicants must hold a credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Current certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred.
Current certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Active membership in the Association of Surgical Technologists is required.
