College of The Albemarle invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Full-Time Program Coordinator.

Full-time program coordinators are responsible for specialized leadership and administrative oversight for their academic program, high-quality instruction, supporting student success, and participating in activities that advance the mission of the College. Program Coordinators are expected to contribute to curriculum development, student advising, institutional service, and continuous improvement within their academic discipline.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. Employment is contingent upon funding availability, Board approval, successful completion of the College's pre-employment process, and continued institutional need.

While this position is located onsite at the COA Elizabeth City campus, instructional assignments Faculty may include courses at any College of The Albemarle campus, instructional site, online, or other approved instructional locations based on program needs. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, hybrid, or online courses, and travel throughout the College's service area may be required.

10 Month position

The Criminal Justice Technology Program Coordinator provides specialized leadership and administrative oversight for the College’s online Criminal Justice Technology Associate in Applied Sciences degree program. As the primary subject matter expert and operational lead for a distinct pathway or career cluster, the Program Coordinator manages curriculum (credit-bearing) courses tied directly to that program. The program coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the program.

This position maintains an active faculty role, models best practices in teaching and learning, and coordinates program operations to ensure student and institutional success. The role of the Instructor, Criminal Justice Technology is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student‑centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life‑long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal.

Full‑time faculty support student learning through high‑quality instruction, academic advising, curriculum development, and active participation in departmental and institutional initiatives. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, hybrid, or online courses depending on program needs.

The FT Program Coordinator, Criminal Justice Technology receives supervision from the Dean, Workforces, Economic Development, and Public Safety (WEDPS).

Workload:

The College recognizes that the leadership of a program and its associated courses requires a significant time commitment beyond standard instructional duties. To ensure effective program management, Program Coordinators may receive up to a one‑third reduction in instructional load, subject to the approval of the Academic Dean based on extenuating factors or the operational and supervisory needs of the program. Any reduction in excess of this requires approval from both the Academic Dean and the Vice President.

Program Coordinators are appointed to either a 10 or 12 month contract based on program needs. In addition to the base salary and any supplemental contracts, Program Coordinators receive a monthly administrative stipend of $150 for the duration of their appointment.

Essential Faculty Duties:

• Teach Criminal Justice courses in accordance with departmental outcomes, accreditation requirements, and College policies, including evening, off‑site, distance, online, and hybrid formats as needed.

• Develop and deliver current, engaging curriculum using effective instructional methods and learning technologies; assess student learning; maintain accurate records; and submit required reports on time.

• Foster an inclusive, respectful, and safe learning environment that supports diverse learners and promotes the dignity and value of each person.

• Participate in curriculum development, assessment, program review, accreditation, compliance, budget planning, and continuous‑improvement activities.

• Maintain current knowledge of instructional practices, industry standards, and emerging trends in criminal justice.

• Advise Criminal Justice Technology students and, as appropriate, support student organizations.

• Contribute to recruitment, retention, community engagement, and institutional initiatives; serve on assigned committees; and attend required meetings, training, professional‑development activities, and College events.

• Maintain required teaching and office hours; protect student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, state law, and College policy.

• Comply with all College policies and procedures.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Program Coordinator Duties:

I. Teaching and Instruction

• Maintain an active faculty role, fulfill standard faculty responsibilities, and provide high‑quality instruction that supports student learning and success.

II. Faculty Leadership

• Recruit, orient, mentor, supervise, and evaluate adjunct and program faculty.

• Support faculty development, instructional improvement, personnel recommendations, and compliance with attendance, grading, and other required documentation.

• Coordinate instructional coverage as needed and use student‑evaluation results to strengthen teaching and program outcomes.

III. Program Administration

• Lead the Criminal Justice Technology program in alignment with College priorities, workforce needs, accreditation standards, licensure requirements, and applicable laws and policies.

• Coordinate curriculum, scheduling, program review, assessment, student‑learning outcomes, continuous improvement, and new course or program development.

• Use enrollment, retention, completion, course, and other relevant data to guide planning, program growth, and student‑success strategies.

• Manage program resources, including textbooks, equipment, facilities, records, accreditation materials, and budget development and monitoring.

• Maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming learning environment.

• Conduct program meetings, maintain required documentation, respond to program concerns and correspondence, and communicate regularly with the Department Chair and/or Academic Dean.

IV. Student and Community Engagement

• Advise students regarding course selection, program completion, career opportunities, and transfer pathways.

• Maintain an active Advisory Committee and build relationships with employers, high schools, and regional partners to promote the program and identify workforce needs.

• Support program marketing and recruitment, submit award nominations, and participate in College committees and events.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Required:

• Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, or a closely related field; OR

• Master’s degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, or a closely related field.

• Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in criminal justice, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, courts, legal services, or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Demonstrated organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated commitment to student success.

• Ability to use instructional technology and learning management systems.

• Ability to meet the scheduling and travel requirements of the position, including assignments at College locations or other instructional sites, as needed.

Preferred:

• College‑level teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting.

• Experience coordinating or administering an academic, training, or workforce‑development program.

• Experience supervising, mentoring, or evaluating faculty, instructors, or other personnel.

• Experience with curriculum development, program assessment, student learning outcomes, and continuous improvement.

• Experience with academic advising or student support.

• Experience with online instruction and Canvas or another learning‑management system.

• Knowledge of North Carolina Community College System policies, procedures, and instructional requirements.

• Experience working with advisory committees, employers, criminal justice agencies, or community partners.

Working Conditions

This position is onsite and located at the COA Elizabeth City campus.

Work is performed in classroom, office, online, and community or instructional‑site environments.

Position may require teaching or working during day, evening, or weekend hours based on instructional and program needs. Travel between College campuses, instructional sites, and community or partner locations may be required. Work requires regular use of computers, learning management systems, and other instructional and office technology. Position requires the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners in person and through electronic means.

Duties may occasionally require attendance at College events, advisory committee meetings, professional development activities, or other program‑related functions outside regularly scheduled hours. Work is generally performed in an environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions; however, occasional activities may occur at external criminal justice, public safety, or community partner locations.
