Instructor or Assistant Professor, Nurse Education

Del Mar College is seeking faculty members who are innovative thinkers, adaptive, engaging teachers across modalities, leaders in meaningful service and engaging in community outreach. This full‑time, tenure track position teaches required contact hours/lecture equated per semester and could include online courses and/or dual‑credit/early‑college classes.

Nurse Education faculty are required to work with students of varied backgrounds, including traditional, non‑traditional, and dual‑credit/early‑college students; maintain professional standards of competence; develop professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; and meet all fundamental responsibilities for faculty as outlined in Del Mar College policy. Teach 18 contact hours per semester that could include theory/labs, online or hybrid classes and clinical.

Responsibilities
  • Teach nursing courses and supervise clinicals in health care facilities of 10 to 15 students according to Texas Board of Nursing requirements.
  • Teach 18 contact hours per regular semester that could include theory/labs, online or hybrid courses, and clinical.
  • Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline; teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs; continually improve the quality of instruction by developing and using a variety of teaching methods and materials.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures; review and use student learning materials.
  • Provide students with a written, accessible syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor, including content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods, and schedule of work.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
  • Hold scheduled, posted, virtual or physical office hours of at least one hour daily, available for conferences with students to clarify understanding of their work and possibility of improvement.
  • Assist in academic advising of declared majors; assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to develop action plans for systemic improvement and ensure compliance with professional standards, state‑mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry and higher education.
  • Participate in the self‑evaluation process; establish goals and objectives, which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the department chair; maintain professional standards of competence and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement activities.
  • Serve on committees; accept special assignments occasionally; participate in scheduled institutional activities such as convocation and graduation ceremonies; participate in department, divisional, and College meetings and College‑related activities such as registration and selection of faculty; participate in activities required to maintain program and College accreditation standards; participate in the College planning process; meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar; participate in business and/or community activities that promote the mission of the College.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Nursing.
  • Three (3) years of clinical work experience.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Texas (submission of certification required).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare provider certification (submission of certification required).
  • Current negative Tuberculin (TB) and other required immunizations as stipulated by healthcare agencies (documentation required prior to first day of employment).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching college‑level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
