Job summary

The Middlebury College Summer Arabic School invites applications for a temporary Instructor of Arabic to teach and model immersive language use on the campus in Middlebury, Vermont. The position emphasizes reading, writing, and speaking exclusively in Arabic, within a collaborative instructional team.

The successful candidate will have experience teaching Arabic as a second language, welcome opportunities to teach Arab culture and society, and participate in a community of scholars while lodging

Qualifications

• MA or PhD (ABD acceptable)
• Experience teaching Arabic as a second/foreign language
• Ability to teach aspects of Arab culture and society such as poetry, literature, art, music

Responsibilities

Description

The Middlebury College Summer Arabic School is pleased to announce a vacancy for a temporary Instructor of Arabic. The position is available during the summer 2021 session, located on the Middlebury College campus in Middlebury Vermont. Our unique 8-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreating with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Arabic.

We are looking for a faculty member who has experience teaching Arabic as a second or foreign language, and experience in teaching aspects of Arab culture and society. This may include poetry, literature, art, music, etc.

In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess a MA or PhD (ABD with strong credentials may also be considered), strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success working as a member of an instructional team. A candidate with a creative, dynamic, and easy-going approach will be an excellent fit with the Arabic School.

Application deadline is June 1, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled. This position is for summer of 2021.
