Overview

The Instructor, Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), is responsible for the total operation of an assigned Early Childhood Program classroom including instruction, supervision of students, supervision of a classroom aide, and liaison with parents in accordance with program standards. The duties are performed under the general supervision of an immediate supervisor who evaluates performance through observation of work, periodic conferences, critiques, and/or records and reports.

Supervisory and District Expectations
  • SUPERVISORY EXPECTATIONS: Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS: All district employees must: Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Physical presence is a part of a reliable and predictable pattern of attendance; Support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan; Engage in civility, respect, and professionalism; Maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.
Responsibilities
  • Plans and implements a program of learning experiences which will help the children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
  • Supervises student behavior.
  • Supervises teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Collects various fees.
  • Maintains up-to-date records of individual students’ progress which will include observations, assessment results, and individualized education plans.
  • Integrates the educational aspects of the various Early Childhood Program components in the daily program of activities.
  • Participates in training programs.
  • Organizes parent center committees and works directly with parents and staff to develop center parent programs and activities.
  • Works together with parents to understand each child and provide for his learning experiences (conferences, home visits, etc.).
  • Prepares, orders, maintains instructional materials/supplies.
  • Participates in school site activities and events.
  • Washes and dries student clothes and/or bathe students.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Preschool Education (Birth to Age Four) or Pre-Kindergarten/Primary Education (Age Three Through Grade Three). Upon employment must sign and fulfill the requirements of an Agreement to Earn for Head Start Instructor.
  • Language Skills: Reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Writes reports, correspondence, and manuals. Effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands
  • Physical Activities: Sitting, standing, walking, handling, talking, and hearing.
  • Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds.
  • Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
  • Environmental Conditions: Noise intensity: moderate.
