Job summary

Terra State Community College seeks an experienced educator to deliver the Electricity: Power and Controls curriculum. The instructor will plan and teach courses, assess student performance, and maintain current syllabi and lab facilities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Deliver curriculum in Electricity: Power and Controls program.
  • Plan and teach courses meeting current curriculum goals.
  • Assess student performance using approved methods.
  • Communicate progress and submit grades per college policies.
  • Maintain office hours and oversee lab facilities.
  • Assist with student advising and recruitment for the Electrical program.
  • Collaborate with advising and admissions staff to support students.
  • Engage industry partners and advisory boards for learning outcomes.

Position Summary

Engages Students in the teaching/learning process; works assigned schedule. Courses may include Basic Electricity, AC/DC Machines, Electrical Prints and Troubleshooting, PLC, VFD and Servo Systems, and Motor/Process Controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for curriculum delivery in the Electricity: Power and Controls Degree and certificates.
  • Plans and teaches courses that fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  • Determines and submits students' grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures.
  • May assist with student advising.
  • May develop syllabi and must keep syllabi current.
  • Supports the mission of the program, division, and College.
  • Works effectively with students and challenges students appropriately with an acceptable level of civility and discourse.
  • Determines and submits students' grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures. Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  • Assesses curriculum in assigned program or discipline and recommends needed changes.
  • Attends meetings with other assigned course instructors for assessment planning and evaluation of course and program effectiveness.
  • Works with advising staff to make sure the program is understood. Assists with student advising. Works with admissions advisors to help recruit students for the Electrical program.
  • Actively engages business and industry partners to assure program learning outcomes meet their expectations. Conducts regular advisory board meetings.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to adjunct faculty in accordance with the faculty member’s current rank.
  • Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and College policies.
  • Maintains and oversees lab facility and equipment.
  • Participates in activities that enhance professional skills and development.
  • Demonstrates continuing professional development as an educator and participates in the faculty evaluation processes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in assigned program or discipline.
  • Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology.
  • Works in collaboration with other departments on cross-discipline projects.
  • Participates effectively in campus councils, committees, task forces, or work groups. Participates in departmental meetings.
  • Supports the mission of the program, division, and College.

Education and/or Experience
  • Associate’s degree in Industrial Electricity or related field required.
  • Five years’ work experience in the electrical field.
