Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a qualified advisor to support freshman students through developmentally focused advising, course placement, and orientation.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in guidance counseling, education, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in teaching or advising students preferred.
  • Cover Letter/Letter of Application required

  • List of three Professional References required

  • Unofficial/Official Transcript(s) required
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Pre-employment screening: Child Maltreatment, Criminal Background Check, Motor Vehicle Reports Check, Sex Offender Registry

Responsibilities

  • Provide developmental and intrusive advising
  • Determine placement and register freshman students for courses
  • Maintain files and track first-year students
  • Consult with faculty and staff on behalf of individual students
  • Make referrals for support services as needed
  • Assist in planning and implementing new student orientation
  • Provide classroom instruction and student-development workshops
  • Perform classroom and related research deemed necessary for the area
  • Serve as advisor to student organizations
  • Serve on University committees
  • Assist in departmental recruitment and retention programs
  • Assist in developing and expanding innovative programs to improve student transition, achievement, and persistence in college
