Qualifications

  • Must pass reference and background checks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

EOEPOSITION SUMMARY: The Instructor will be under the direct supervision of the Educational School-Based Content Specialist and Program Director. The Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, caring, and enriching opportunity for participants enrolled within the COMPASS/ SONYC Programs. The Instructor will implement a project-based learning experience, utilizing UAU’s educational and work-readiness curriculum that will help and provide participants strengthen their educational skills. The Instructor will lead specialized activities such as STEAM, art, organized sports, music, literacy, academic support and other educational enriching activities as deemed necessary and appropriate based on programmatic needs.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):Provide evidence of curriculum development and work collaboratively with the Program Director and Educational School-Based Content Specialist.Implement and assist with the development of specialized activity lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and group lessons utilizing a variation of teaching methods for programming curriculum.Independently supervise and manage groups of participants.Translate lesson plans into engaging learning experiences that create a fun and visually appealing environment.Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of participants.Facilitate a safe and productive learning environment for all participants.Model, enforce, teach and develop age appropriate social, physical and emotional behaviors.Employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors.Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model to participants.Abide by all compliance and safety protocols as outlined by the NYC Department of Health, NYC Department of Education, OCFS, DYCD and UAU.Participate in ongoing professional developmentPerforms other related duties as necessary or assigned.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or GED required.
