Job summary

Chesapeake College seeks a Coordinator for Adult Education (ABE/GED/ESL) to lead instructional practices, mentor staff, and drive curriculum development across programs. The role collaborates with leadership to ensure quality, compliance, and learner success within a grant-funded setting.

The ideal candidate will oversee professional development, recruit staff, design onboarding, and align assessments with curriculum to support targeted outcomes and accreditation standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred.
• AEFLA-funded adult education experience preferred.
• Adult education teaching experience with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Training, mentoring, and professional development delivery required.
• Knowledge of adult learning theory and practice.
• Familiarity with professional development standards/methods/techniques.
• Knowledge of assessment, curriculum design, development, and instructional strategies based on adult learning research.
• Knowledge of Literacy Pro Systems (LACES) data elements and intake/update forms.
• Valid driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Lead programs leadership team to ensure cohesive planning, compliance, and outcomes.
• Identify professional development priorities; design and deliver high-impact learning.
• Serve as instructional leader for GED/ABE/ESL instructors and ensure consistency.
• Recruit, interview, and select instructional staff to maintain quality.
• Design onboarding and training systems for new staff.
• Develop and monitor curriculum aligned with standards and metrics.
• Oversee curricula, resources, and technology for ABE/GED/ESL.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to instructional staff.
• Conduct classroom observations and deliver actionable feedback.
• Ensure alignment among assessment, curriculum, and instruction for data-driven decisions.
• Collaborate on accommodations for learners with disabilities and ELLs.
• Support LABOR grant-related class planning and scheduling with IAS.
• Coordinate with administration to align schedules and website listings.
• Lead textbook and resource selection in coordination with IAS.
• Support grant sustainability and training dissemination.
