Qualifications

Position Highlights

The University Center for Assessment, Teaching, and Technology (UCATT) seeks an Instructional Designer II to join our vibrant team of educators who are committed to instructional excellence. UCATT provides comprehensive and evidence-based teaching practices, course design, and instructional technologies to promote impactful learning across campus.

You will collaborate with instructors in the continuous improvement of online courses by providing instructional design support within the university’s learning management system. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable. If you are passionate about instructional design, technology, and education, we’d love for you to join our team.

Duties & Responsibilities
Course Design and Development
  • Partners with faculty to create engaging online learning experiences that promote student success through innovative design and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty on options for engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound materials that address diverse learning contexts and are accessible to all students and encourage critical thinking skills and student-centered online learning.
  • Partner with faculty and subject matter experts to implement feedback from reviews and to maintain and revise fully online courses.
  • Assist faculty with the incorporation of instructional technology to promote communication and collaborative student engagement.
  • Support the modification and development of video and interactive learning objects.
  • Facilitate training for various topics such as course design and quality assurance.
Evaluation and Project Management
  • Evaluate courses and implement research-informed changes to maintain the continuous improvement process for our online courses.
  • Evaluate course design using rubrics and provide specific feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate courses for the incorporation of accessibility, interaction, social presence, equity, and community among students, and between students and instructors.
  • Manage multiple course development projects and timelines.
  • Track and document project progress and milestones.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Advances instructional design excellence through effective communication, collaboration with stakeholders, and continuous professional growth.
  • Partner with faculty and subject matter experts on course design.
  • Contribute to best practices through professional development.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Participate in team initiatives to improve instructional design processes.
  • Document and share instructional design practices.Provide guidance and mentorship to other instructional designers on the continuous improvement process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of best design practices for the development of online learning environments.
  • Familiar with ADA compliance, accessibility issues, and universal design principles.
  • Knowledge of technical writing, content authoring, content organization, and content mapping.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related academic discipline.
  • Project management experience and the ability to prioritize tasks as aligned with current goals and initiatives.
  • Experience working directly with college faculty as an instructional designer.
  • Training or certificates in instructional design, educational technology or related field.
  • Experience with learning management systems.
  • Experience with Quality Matters or other quality assurance frameworks.
  • Experience taking a fully online course.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, video editing, or graphic design.
