Instructional Designer

Job Locations: US-NY-New York

Overview

The Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty members to enhance and maintain asynchronous online courses. Rooted in prior teaching experience, this role focuses on creating engaging and effective course content while providing hands‑on support to faculty throughout their teaching. Instructional Designers are experts in instructional design, learning theory, student engagement strategies, and the use of Learning Management Systems. They also facilitate live training sessions and workshops to assist faculty in adopting emerging technologies and pedagogical best practices. The Instructional Designer will maintain a list of faculty members and the asynchronous online courses they teach, ensuring these courses are kept current by assisting faculty with necessary updates. The Instructional Designer is responsible for ensuring that courses are copied before the start of each semester and that the courses adhere to the Touro standards for asynchronous online courses. This role requires a collaborative spirit and the ability to pivot based on constructive feedback to ensure the best possible learner experience.

Responsibilities
Course Development
  • Partner with faculty to develop high-quality asynchronous courses that align with institutional goals and learning outcomes
  • Create engaging instructional materials, including multimedia content, assessments, and interactive activities
  • Stay informed about emerging instructional technologies and their application in online education
  • Provide detailed feedback to faculty on course design and content to ensure alignment with best practices and standards
  • Use graphic design tools to enhance course visuals and improve usability
  • Integrate AI and other innovative tools to improve student engagement and learning outcomes
Faculty Support
  • Work closely with faculty to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to course design and online teaching
  • Provide one‑on‑one and group training sessions for faculty on using LMS features and other educational technologies
  • Assist faculty in designing, creating, and integrating videos and multimedia elements into their courses
  • Serve as a resource for faculty to implement engaging and effective teaching strategies in their courses
  • Assist Senior Instructional Designers on projects as needed, contributing to collaborative efforts and gaining exposure to high‑profile initiatives
Assessment and Metrics
  • Identify and track success metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of course designs and suggest improvements
  • Support faculty in applying assessment tools to gather student feedback and improve course quality
  • Assist with documentation and data collection for accreditation processes
Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • BS/BA required (Degree in Education or a core academic discipline preferred); MA required in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Learning Science (Andragogy), or Education required; MEd is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of post‑college work experience in education or a related field.
  • Experience as an instructional designer.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical methods for learners with diverse abilities and backgrounds, specifically Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
    • Demonstrated comfort with technology in education.
    • Able to conduct one‑on‑one and group training of faculty.
    • Adept at developing text, video or audio training materials to assist faculty with learning new tools and strategies.
    • Able to assist faculty in developing videos and graphically attractive material.
    • Demonstrated skill developing and implementing training and support for faculty, staff and/or students.
    • Strong technical skills and knowledge of informational technology.
  • Computer Skills
    • Proficiency with video editing software programs, preferably in Adobe Premiere Pro.
    • Ability to become proficient on the in‑house database.
    • Proficiency with HTML and CSS.
    • Demonstrated expertise with e‑learning software and content development tools as well as ability to build effective training content (e.g. Adobe Captivate, Premiere).
    • Familiarity with new media and new technology solutions for higher education.
    • Experience with a variety of operating systems (OSX, Windows, Mobile) and video recording tools.
    • Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Captivate, Premiere, Photoshop).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Google Apps and Education tools, educational video production tools (e.g., YuJa), and cloud computing (e.g., Box).
Travel
  • New York based.
  • Ability to travel to various locations where TCUS facilities are located, as needed.
Maximum Salary

USD $75,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $60,000.00/Yr.
