Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) provides strategic technology leadership, enterprise IT services, cybersecurity, and digital solutions that support East Carolina University's teaching, research, student success, medical, and administrative operations. The Instructional Design (ID) team at ECU supports academic excellence by collaborating with faculty to develop innovative, research-informed, and high-quality course designs. The team focuses on course design grounded in sound teaching standards, aligned with program outcomes, and informed by Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure accessibility and engagement for all learners. The ID team strengthens this foundation through rigorous course reviews guided by research-based standards and faculty training that helps integrate learning technologies effectively and creatively. The team serves as a bridge between sound design and teaching excellence through technology, championing learning for all and innovation in every learning environment.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Instructional Design (ID) team at ECU supports academic excellence by collaborating with faculty to develop innovative, research-informed, and high-quality course designs. Reporting to the IT Instructional Classroom Support Professional Supervisor, this position designs high-quality courses aligned with program outcomes, best teaching practices, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

As a member of the Instructional Design Team, this position enhances teaching and learning through research-based course design, quality review processes, and faculty development. By combining sound pedagogy with effective learning technologies, this position promotes accessibility, engagement, and innovation across all learning environments.

Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Master's degree in Education, Communication, Instructional Design, Educational Media or Educational Technology and five years of experience in the education field related to the area of work is beneficial.
• Experience developing training focused on the use of learning technologies and best practices that support the effective integration of instructional applications.
• Experience delivering training (face-to-face, virtual and e-learning, etc.) focused on the use of learning technologies and best practices that support the effective integration of instructional applications.
• Experience conducting evaluations and making recommendations to modify the training program or materials based on the results.
• Knowledge and experience supporting faculty using the following teaching modes: face-to-face, online, hybrid.
• Knowledge and understanding of classroom technology hardware and software.
• Experience providing technical support for learning technologies.
• Experience assisting faculty with using and implementing learning technologies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both oral and written.

The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.

This position requires the employee to reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the ECU main campus. 'Reasonable commuting distance' is defined as a location that does not exceed a distance that can be safely traveled in two hours by automobile under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads to employee's assigned duty station in Greenville, NC.

This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) under the ECU FWA Policy.
