North Marion School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant – Self-Contained Classroom at North Marion Middle School in Aurora, Oregon. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or paraprofessional assessment preferred.
• Must meet federal/state paraprofessional requirements, if applicable.
• Successful background and criminal history clearance.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and meet physical demands.
• Willingness to learn and apply instructional and de-escalation strategies.

Position Summary

North Marion School District is seeking a dedicated Instructional Assistant – Self-Contained Classroom to support students with significant cognitive, developmental, physical, and/or behavioral needs. This position provides academic instruction, behavioral support, and personal care assistance in a self-contained special education setting. Instructional Assistants work closely with licensed teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student independence and growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Support students with individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals


• Assist with accommodations, modifications, and communication strategies


• Provide personal care assistance (e.g., toileting, feeding, hygiene, mobility) as required


• Implement behavioral intervention plans and positive behavior supports


• Use trained de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies when needed


• Support students with adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and communication devices


• Supervise students across school settings to ensure safety and engagement


• Collect and share student progress data with teachers and specialists


• Prepare and adapt instructional materials under teacher direction


• Maintain confidentiality and accurate student records


• Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development


• Perform other related duties as assigned
