Job summary

ntc seeks a Diesel Instructional Assistant to support faculty in delivering hands-on instruction. You will prepare labs, vehicles, tools, and materials; assist students and reinforce Diesel-Math concepts; and monitor safety during activities under faculty supervision.

This grant-funded, part-time role supports 24 hours per week, 33 weeks per year, with a starting rate of $24.73 per hour and a grant end date of June 30, 2028.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED; associate degree preferred.
• Experience: 3 years in the Diesel equipment repair industry.
• Strong math calculations related to diesel repair.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratories, vehicles, tools, equipment, parts, and instructional materials for scheduled learning activities.
• Assist faculty during classroom, laboratory, and hands-on learning experiences.
• Reinforce Diesel-Math concepts and demonstrate in lab procedures as directed by faculty.
• Provide individual or small-group assistance to students practicing skills.
• Promote safe work practices and address unsafe conditions and behaviors.
• Help students properly use, clean, organize, and return tools and equipment.
• Maintain an orderly, professional, and industry-relevant learning environment.
• Perform routine equipment checks and communicate maintenance, repair, supply, and inventory needs.

JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

The Diesel Instructional Assistant role supports Diesel Technology faculty in delivering safe, effective, hands-on instruction by preparing and maintaining instructional laboratories, equipment, tools, vehicles, and materials; reinforcing faculty-led instruction and demonstrations; assisting students as they practice assigned competencies; monitoring students' adherence to established safety procedures; and providing faculty with observations regarding student progress and support needs. The Instructional Assistant works under the direction of faculty and does not independently determine curriculum, assign grades, evaluate final competency achievement, or replace the faculty member's responsibility for instruction and assessment.

This position is funded by a grant which has a projected grant end date of June 30, 2028. Funding for this position beyond this date is dependent upon budget and operational needs.

This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week, 33 weeks per year.

Starting Hourly Rate Based on Qualifications:

$24.73

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Reinforce previously taught Diesel-Math concepts and demonstrate in lab procedures as directed by faculty.

• Promote safe work practices and immediately address or report unsafe conditions and behaviors.
• Help students properly use, clean, organize, and return tools and equipment.
• Maintain an orderly, professional, and industry-relevant learning environment.
• Perform routine equipment checks and communicate maintenance, repair, supply, and inventory needs.

Minimum Qualifications Required

• Education: High School Education / GED
• Associate degree in a related field preferred.
• Experience: 3 Years

Additional Experience Information: At least 3 years' experience in the Diesel Equipment repair industry. Must be astute in Math calculations as related to diesel repair.
