Job summary

The Johnston County Detention Center is actively seeking a Cook to assist the Food Services Manager in coordinating inmates involved in preparing and serving meals for the inmate population. The role requires twelve-hour shifts, attention to sanitary conditions, and supervision of trustees in related tasks.

You will work with a team to prepare diverse meals, manage ingredients, and ensure adherence to prescribed menus, while maintaining safety and cleanliness in a demanding environment.

Qualifications

• High-volume cooking knowledge and methods
• Maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and food sanitation
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Supervise inmates in kitchen assignments

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of a complete meal by starting the cooking process, seasoning, observing, removing when done, and placing food in warming devices
• Secures necessary items used in meal preparation and prepares food for cooking
• Supervises inmates in their kitchen assignments
• Participates in preparation of meats, vegetables, breads, cakes, desserts, and salads
• Prepares items and may prepare special diet foods for inmates
• Performs related duties as required
