i3 Broadband seeks an Installation and Support Technician in Illinois to deliver on our promise of high-quality internet, TV, and voice services. You will perform inside/outside installations at customers’ homes, manage connections, upgrades, and disconnections, and ensure service quality with test equipment.

You will communicate policy details, complete required paperwork, and contribute to revenue through informed product options and promotions while maintaining safety and professional

Qualifications

  • No prior experience is required; hands-on or electrical interest is a plus.
  • Must have a clean driving record and pass a background check.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in tight spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Perform exterior and interior customer drop installations from tap to antenna terminals.
  • Handle new connects, disconnects, adds outlets, and service upgrades/downgrades.
  • Assess picture quality and ensure acceptable delivery of cable services.
  • Use field tools and read signal levels to resolve installation issues.
  • Explain FCC rules and company policies to customers and document activities.

Job Summary:

Installation and Support Technicians are critical to deliver on i3's promise of the world's most advanced internet, television, and voice services with the industry's best customer service. Installation & Support Technicians focus primarily on new installations of our cable television and broadband services. Technicians represent i3 every day to our customers, often in the customer’s home, performing a variety of duties including installation, changes of service, additional outlet installation, disconnection of service, payment collection, and any special requests customers may have regarding installation or use of services.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Makes customer drop installations (exterior and interior) complete from tap to antenna terminals on customer equipment in customer dwellings.
  • Performs new connects, reconnects, requested and non-pay disconnects; adds outlets; installs and/or removes converters; performs upgrades and downgrades of service.
  • Analyzes picture quality and judges acceptability of picture delivered following installation of cable service.
  • Uses connectors, fasteners, and wire, and uses customary CATV hand and power tools in performance of job duties.
  • Reads signal levels through use of field strength meter; adds and subtracts levels in installation problems; installs connectors on different types of drop cable; maintains proper clearances; installs tap-off devices.
  • Properly uses, stores and maintains a VOM or DMM to check for "open" or "short" on line as well as AC and DC voltages.
  • Reads general drop system layouts from blueprints.
  • Inform customers of FCC Rules and company policies.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork / system logs as required.
  • Performs vehicle upkeep and maintenance to keep company vehicles clean, fueled and in good working order; reports problems promptly.
  • Performs clean-up or salvage of wrecked materials.
  • Generate additional company revenue through effective sales techniques and by offering information about product options, sales campaigns and promotions.
  • Provides assistance to other team members or performs other duties as directed.

Education and Experience:
  • No prior experience is necessary, however any demonstrated interest or aptitude for hands-on work, physical work, or working with cable or electrical components is .
  • Prior telephone, cable, or electrical experience is .
  • Must have a clean driving record and the ability to pass a criminal background check.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work outdoors, and in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Better than average manual dexterity to work with connectors, fasteners and wire and use hand tools.
  • Visual acuity, especially when working with small components at a close visual range.
  • Ability and comfort to works within limited confines, such as crawl spaces.
  • Ability to climb utility poles or work from high spaces with or without the assistance of a bucket truck, while adhering to safety rules/regulations and with proper rigging/climbing equipment.
