Job summary

Next Level HVAC Energy Management Systems in Redwood City, CA seeks an experienced Lead Field Installer to oversee building control system installations and ensure compliance with codes. You will interpret drawings, install wiring, troubleshoot, and coordinate with subcontractors, traveling to sites as needed.

This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and the ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Two years of low voltage installation in controls or related systems preferred.
  • Additional technical experience may meet requirements.
  • Basic computer operation knowledge.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment (volt/amp meters).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, control, and system diagrams.
  • Understanding of low and high voltage AC circuits including transformers, fuses, breakers, etc.
  • Knowledge of construction safety and electrical codes.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Empathetic, collaborative problem-solving to achieve outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret Next Level drawings to install controls and building systems.
  • Install conduit and wire for controls and building systems.
  • Accurately terminate low voltage wiring for controls and building systems.
  • Assist troubleshooting during startup or commissioning of building control systems.
  • Provide input to assist in estimation, design, and installation for building systems.
  • Provide information and support for other contractors on project site.
  • Prepare daily logs and as-built documentation.
  • Assist in preparing As-built drawings and O&M manuals.
  • Provide up-to-date as-built information including sensors, panels, database, codes.
  • Identify and resolve potential project issues.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors or internal team to maximize value.
  • Support other contractors to resolve operating issues beyond controls.
  • Communicate with internal employees to ensure accurate workload and productivity.
  • Senior field installers inspect work for code compliance and craftsmanship.
  • Travel to various locations and work flexible hours.
  • <b>(Senior)</b> Programming and testing of less complex control programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to achieve many objectives of this position. Requires some amount of timely supervision to ensure the proper tasks are being accomplished and that communication is adequate, timely, in the correct manner (i.e., verbal, written, email, etc.)

Experience

Consistently achieves all the objectives of this position. This individual also provides mentoring and direct day-to-day supervision to level 1 positions.

Lead

Highly experienced in the position. This individual has a deep understanding of the many systems installed and maintained within the division. Has advanced skills at laying out and managing others. Has a good understanding of the hardware associated with controls and/or specialty devices. Understands basic theory behind building systems operations and can assist in troubleshooting both installation and operation. This position may also oversee a group of installers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interpret Next Levels (NXL) and others drawings to productively install controls and/or other building system installations.
  • Install conduit and wire for controls and building systems.
  • Accurately terminate low voltage wiring for controls and building systems.
  • Assist as required troubleshooting efforts during either the static or dynamic start up or commissioning of building control systems.
  • Provide input to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, and installation for building systems.
  • Provide information and support for other contractors on project site.
  • Provide documentation including daily logs, etc. as required for assigned projects.
  • Assist in preparing of As-built drawings and Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
  • Provide up to date as-built information as required including locations for sensors, panels, database, code, etc.

  • Coordinates with Subcontractors or internal installation team to achieve maximum value in installations.
  • Provide support to Next Level and other contractors to solve building operatingissues that go beyond the controls or special systemsoperation.
  • Communicate with internal employees as required to ensure Next Level laboris accurate and timely and estimated productivity is achieved in allareas.
  • Experienced and Senior Field Installers inspect work done by other NXL employees or subcontractors to ensure all of our work is per code and meets acceptable levels of craftsmanship.
  • Travel to various locations as needed and work flexible hours.
  • (Senior) Programming and testing of less complex control programs
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of high schooldiploma.
  • Two-years of low voltage installation in controls or special system preferred.
  • Other technical experience such as military, on the job training programs,etc. may meet this requirement as determined by localmanagement.
  • Experience and expertise including but not limitedto:
  • Anunderstanding of basic computer operatingsystems.
  • A clear ability to work with electrical equipment such as volt meters, amp meters, etc.
  • The ability to troubleshoot basic electric circuitry including reading and interpreting electrical, control, and special system diagrams.
  • A working understanding of low and high voltage AC circuitry including transformers, fuses, breakers, multi-phase power, etc.
  • A working understanding of low and high voltage AC circuitry including transformers, fuses, breakers, multi-phase power, etc.
  • An understanding of the construction industry including safety, electrical codes, etc.
  • Clear and concise ability to communicate verbally and inwriting.
  • Anability to understand empathetically the issues and perceptions others have and to creatively and successfully work through these issues to achieve a successful outcome and customer and employeesatisfaction.
Essential Functions:
  • Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material,etc.
  • Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on constructionsites.
  • Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day ona constructionsite.
  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Next Levels vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a companyvehicle.
  • Be able to drive to and from job sites as required.
  • Be able to work night shifts as required.
  • Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
