Job summary

People Technology And Processes is seeking an Installation, Repair, & Jumpers Technician (Outside Plant) to support Fort Knox, KY operations. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications cable plants, including fiber and copper, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires five years of related experience, a high school diploma, and certifications such as BICSI and ACIS. Lifting to 50 pounds and a valid driver's license are expected.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience on maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems.
• Experience with requisite tools and test equipment, including Fusion Splicers.
• In-depth knowledge of OSP network drawings, route maps, fiber test results, and telecom engineering design.

Responsibilities

• Supports diverse cable and equipment with exposure to environmental conditions.
• Monitors security of cable runs and provides alternate routing for disaster recovery.
• Reviews drawings, statements of work, and manuals to determine installation requirements.
• Ensures installations meet standards and directives.
• Locates, repairs, and replaces splice cases and faulty components.
• Maintains/repairs/restores cable plant and fiber/copper fabrication.
• Documents infrastructure with proper labeling and diagrams.
• Troubleshoots outages and updates network documentation.
• Maintains safe work environment per codes/regulations.
• Responds to service requests and resolves voice/data problems.

Position Title: Installation, Repair, & Jumpers Technician (Outside Plant)

Location: Fort Knox, KY

Clearance Type: SECRET

Compensation: $31.79/hr.

Responsibilities

• Performs support of many different and varying types of cable and equipment with exposure to environmental conditions.
• Provides design and maintenance support, which includes monitoring the security of cable runs, providing alternate routing for disaster recovery, with consideration of the location of local exchange carrier facilities and the physical terrain.
• Reviews engineered drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals to determine requirements for underground, buried, and aerial cable systems, prepares and installs distribution equipment, and terminates/splices cables.
• Ensures installations are compliant with technical standards, specifications, and engineered directives.
• Locates, repairs, and/or replaces splice cases, performs troubleshooting to locate faulty splice cases and component assemblies.
• Maintain/repair/replace the existing cable plant, provide fiber optic/copper cable fabrication, support adds/moves/changes.
• Documents infrastructure by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
• Mantains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
• Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
• Responds to service requests, troubleshoot, isolate, and repair voice and data problems.
• Inspects and performs routine maintenance in manholes. Assists with repair, securing, and replacement of all cable-related defects within manholes.
• Inspects and reports deficiencies with telephone poles, pedestals, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure. Makes repairs as necessary or escalates to other technicians.
• Provides other duties as assigned to support contract requirements.
• Attends training sessions as required (DoD, Information Assurance, Security, Corporate).

Qualifications

Education and Certifications

• High school diploma required.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• BICSI installer 1 qualified
• BICSI TE350: BICSI Technician Training
• Holocom certification
• Avaya Certified Implementation Spec (ACIS)
• OSHA 10 Hour Training and Confined Space

Knowledge and Experience

• Five years of experience on maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems.
• Experience with requisite tools and test equipment, to include Fusion Splicers.
• In depth knowledge of OSP network drawings, route maps, interpreting fiber test results, fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design and construction, and the ability to work cross-functionally to monitor network performance.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

• OSHA 30 Hour Training.
