POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Installation Engineer plays a critical role in delivering Nikon SLM Solutions’ industry‑leading metal additive manufacturing systems, overseeing the installation, commissioning, calibration, testing, and technical validation of equipment at customer sites worldwide. Combining hands‑on mechanical and electrical expertise with advanced troubleshooting skills, this role ensures systems are deployed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with the Installation Manager and cross‑functional technical teams, the Installation Engineer is responsible for resolving complex technical challenges, maintaining thorough documentation, and ensuring successful system handover to the customer. The ideal candidate thrives in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments, can think on their feet, and takes a creative, solutions‑oriented approach when unexpected challenges arise. This position requires strong technical aptitude, adaptability, and the flexibility to travel extensively both domestically and internationally.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, assemble, and commission metal additive manufacturing systems at customer sites, ensuring mechanical and electrical components are properly installed and connected.
  • Perform system calibration, testing, verification, and functional checks to ensure equipment meets established specifications and performance requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and system-related issues encountered during installation and commissioning.
  • Escalate complex or advanced technical issues to engineering, service, or other appropriate technical resources when necessary.
  • Read and interpret technical documentation, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, installation procedures, and system specifications.
  • Utilize hand tools, measurement equipment, and diagnostic tools to complete installations and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Perform cross-checks and verification of installation work to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Provide technical support to customers during the installation and commissioning process and communicate system status, issues, and next steps clearly.
  • Support customer training on basic system operation, maintenance requirements, and proper equipment use.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installation activities, calibrations, testing, technical issues, resolutions, and customer interactions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to resolve technical issues and ensure successful system handover.
  • Follow all company and customer‑site safety requirements, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve installation processes, procedures, documentation, quality, and efficiency.
  • Support equipment disassembly, reassembly, repairs, upgrades, or component replacement when required.
  • Participate in technical training and continued skill development to maintain knowledge of SLM systems and technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This role is most effective at customers’ sites (90%-100% travel), which will primarily be in the United States; however, national and international travel will be required on occasion.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in equipment installation, field service, commissioning, industrial maintenance, or a similar technical role.
  • Hands‑on experience working with mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose technical issues logically and systematically.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, technical procedures, and equipment documentation.
  • Proficiency using common hand tools, measurement equipment, and basic diagnostic tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, coworkers, and cross‑functional technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while recognizing when technical issues require escalation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to customer sites domestically and internationally, including travel on short notice.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport.

Preferred Qualifications
