Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a Special Education teacher (K-12) to join our district. As Soon As Possible start date, this 1.0 FTE position requires a Washington State teaching certificate endorsed in Special Education K-12 and a Bachelor’s degree with appropriate endorsement.

The role involves developing individualized learning plans, assessing student growth, and collaborating with staff to meet district curriculum and state requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement.
• Valid Washington State teaching certificate endorsed in Special Education K-12.

Responsibilities

• Develops and plans a program of study based on student needs and implements engaging instruction.
• Assesses student growth and provides progress reports; assigns grades reflecting achievement.
• Supports district educational goals and policies; manages classroom behavior and learning environment.
• Prepares lesson plans and differentiates instruction to meet diverse learners.
• Maintains open communication with students, families, and colleagues.
• Maintains accurate records and uses data to inform instruction and improvement.
• Ensures student safety and appropriate supervision during school activities.
