Job summary

Jackson County Intermediate School District is seeking a Special Education educator to plan, organize, and execute daily instructional activities for cognitively and autistic impaired students. You will integrate the objectives of ancillary staff with classroom and program structure to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.

Required are a Bachelor's degree in special education and a Michigan Teaching Certificate with cognitive or autistic impairment endorsement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a field related to special education is required.
• Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in cognitive impairment or autistic impairment is required.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs and to plan lessons accordingly.

Responsibilities

• Implement instructional activities defined by existing performance objectives.
• Plan and develop student activities in coordination with teacher assistants.
• Maintain effective relationships with ancillary staff and parents.
• Maintain all records pertaining to instructional activities.
• Provide a basic core program for cognitively and/or autistic impaired students.
• Counsel students with educational, occupational and personal problems.
• Coordinate and supervise work experience and on-campus job-training programs.
• Plan curriculum, lessons, Special Education programs and teaching methods.
• Evaluate students' progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observations.
• Maintain the physical environment of the classroom.
• Maintain contact with parents of students.
• Work with staff to coordinate goals and objectives.
• Assist students in making a realistic assessment of their abilities and establishing goals.
• Assist in screening, evaluating and recommending placements for students in the program.
• Evaluate progress and set goals and directions.
• Prepare report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records.
• Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
