The Inside Sales & Product Support Engineer will work closely with sales teams, customers, suppliers, product management, engineering, and project execution teams to help move opportunities from the initial customer request through quoting and order handoff.
The role provides exposure to technical sales, proposal development, supplier coordination, customer requirements, and aftermarket equipment solutions. It is well suited for someone who enjoys understanding technical requirements, developing accurate proposals, solving problems, and coordinating multiple projects and stakeholders.
The position offers a hybrid work schedule, with three days working from the Overland Park, KS office and two days working remotely.
Job Description:
The Inside Sales & Product Support Engineer provides technical and commercial support for standard aftermarket product offerings. This position supports regional sales teams and customers by helping identify appropriate products and solutions, preparing quotes and proposals, coordinating supplier information, maintaining sales and product data, and supporting opportunities through order handoff.
Inside Sales & Product Support
- Serve as an inside sales and first-line product support resource for assigned standard aftermarket opportunities
- Support regional sales teams and customers with product, scope, pricing input, and quote-status questions
- Review customer requests and help determine the appropriate standard product scope based on equipment information, customer requirements, installed equipment, and available product guidance
- Review prior customer and site history to identify repeat, replacement, or related product opportunities
- Maintain accurate customer, site, and product information to support sales activities
- Capture recurring customer questions and proposal issues and communicate feedback to Product Management
- Recognize non-standard, complex, or higher-risk technical and commercial issues and coordinate escalation to the appropriate internal team
- Assist regional sales teams with customer meeting preparation and follow-up
Proposal, RFQ, and Commercial Support
- Prepare complete, accurate, and timely quotes and proposal packages for standard aftermarket offerings
- Review customer RFQs and supporting documentation to understand scope and requirements
- Coordinate RFQs with suppliers and vendors and track responses and quote status
- Review supplier quotations for completeness, scope alignment, and potential technical or commercial gaps
- Coordinate internally to obtain required technical, commercial, and pricing information
- Support quote revisions, customer clarifications, and proposal updates
- Prepare and organize routine commercial documentation required for quotes, bids, and order processing
- Review purchase orders against quoted scope and identify discrepancies or items requiring clarification
- Support a clear and accurate handoff from quote to order execution
Sales Tools, Systems, and Follow-Up
- Maintain standard proposal templates, scope descriptions, clarifications, exceptions, and reference materials
- Maintain product reference information, technical literature, installed-base information, and sales support materials
- Support the development and organization of materials used by sales teams for customer presentations and proposals
- Maintain accurate opportunity, quote, account, and forecast information in CRM and ERP systems
- Track customer follow-up items after quotes are issued and help ensure opportunities continue to progress
- Maintain accurate quote, proposal, customer, and order documentation in appropriate systems
- Coordinate with sales, Product Management, Engineering, Commercial Operations, suppliers, and project execution teams as needed
- Manage multiple customer requests and open quotes while maintaining accuracy and established deadlines
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- 3-5 years of experience in technical inside sales, proposal support, engineered equipment, aftermarket equipment, mechanical equipment, or a related industrial environment
- Ability to understand basic mechanical equipment scopes, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
- Ability to interpret supplier quotations and identify basic scope, pricing, or technical discrepancies
- Experience supporting RFQs, quote development, proposal preparation, supplier coordination, or order processing
- Strong technical and commercial judgment with the ability to recognize when an issue requires additional review or escalation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple open quotes, customer requests, and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively with sales, engineering, suppliers, customers, and other internal teams
- Ability to work across different time zones and communicate effectively with regional teams and external partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aftermarket equipment, engineered products, refinery or petrochemical equipment, or vendor-fabricated products
- Experience supporting repair, refurbishment, replacement, or maintenance-related products
- Experience with CRM and ERP systems
- Experience with Epicor or similar ERP software
- Experience reviewing purchase orders against quotations or proposals
- Experience working in a technical sales, proposal engineering, sales engineering, or commercial support environment
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
