Job summary

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to interpret technical information.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with willingness to learn technical sales concepts.
• Access to Microsoft Teams with video capabilities.
• Willing to travel up to 10% to observe plant processes.

Responsibilities

• Support Sales Engineering with technical assistance, sales support, and customer engagement.
• Assist in preparing quotations and pricing proposals based on customer specs and engineering data.
• Analyze customer and market data to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
• Support creation of sales reports and dashboards; Excel required, Power BI a plus.
• Shadow Inside Sales Engineers to learn interpretation of blueprints, drawings, and specs.
• Participate in cross‑functional meetings to understand product design and customer requirements.
• Learn to provide basic technical support and communicate product features to customers.
• Observe and participate in customer calls to understand relationship management and sales communication best practices.
• Collaborate on special projects to improve quoting processes and response times.

The Inside Sales Intern will support the Sales Engineering team in providing technical assistance, sales support, and customer engagement activities. This internship offers a hands-on learning opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in sales engineering, product knowledge, and customer solutions. You will gain practical experience working alongside Inside Sales Engineers to analyze customer specifications, assist in preparing quotations, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver value‑driven results.

What You Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

• Sales Support and Data Analysis
• Assist in preparing quotations and pricing proposals based on customer specifications and engineering data.
• Analyze customer and market data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for sales growth.
• Support the creation of sales reports and dashboards; proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, Power BI a plus.
• Technical Collaboration
• Shadow Inside Sales Engineers to learn how to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Participate in meetings with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to understand product design, applications, and customer requirements.
• Learn to provide basic technical support and communicate effectively with customers on standard product features.
• Customer Interaction
• Observe and participate in customer calls to understand relationship management and sales communication best practices.
• Assist with follow‑ups on quotations, project timelines, and technical clarifications.
• Project and Team Support
• Collaborate with team members on special projects to improve the quoting process or enhance customer response time.
• Contribute to internal documentation and process updates that support the Inside Sales function.

Required Experience

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering, Business, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI is preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret technical information.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a desire to learn technical sales concepts.
• Access to Microsoft Teams with video capabilities.
• Willing to travel up to 10% to observe plant processes and gather insights.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Interest in technical sales, sales engineering, or product management.
• Familiarity with blueprints, technical drawings, or CAD systems is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.

Education & Certifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial), Business, or a related technical discipline.

Travel & Working Environment

• Hybrid work environment with 2-3 days in office.
