Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team, assist with room setup, instrument handling, and sterile technique.

You will scrub for procedures, assist the circulating nurse, verify implants, operate sterilization equipment, and train new staff; required education includes a Surgical Technician certificate with NBSTSA CST preferred at hire.

Qualifications

• Technical Certificate completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program.
• NBSTSA CST certification preferred upon hire.
• Less than 1 year experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the Operating Room for procedures, organizing equipment and instruments.
• Assists surgeon as scrub person; maintains sterile field at all times.
• Accounts for instruments, needles, and sponges with the team.
• Operates OR equipment and sterilizers; ensures operator safety.
• Receives and verifies implants for procedures (grafts, hardware, allografts).
• Assists in training new staff and moving patients to the OR when needed.
