Job Description

The Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements
  1. For Hire: Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  2. For Continued Employment: Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
Experience Requirements
  • Required: N/A
  • Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting; previous experience with state-of-the-art drug distribution, clinical service methods, and drug information sources and retrieval.
Education/Training
  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program.
  • Preferred: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program.
Independent Actions

Monitoring, screening, and verifying all drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, form, and schedule; ensuring prompt preparation and dispensing; resolving drug therapy problems; clarifying and correcting problematic orders; assigning tasks to pharmacy technicians; counseling patients; resolving equipment and operational issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Additional Requirements
  • Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Serves all age groups.
  • Physical activities include lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing and sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, noisy environment with frequent customer interactions and adapt to change.
